She became a member of the Albany church at the end of 1683, but must have died before 21 Oct 1685 when Jan Pietersen Mackelich, born at Amsterdam, widower of Styntje Jans, married again.

    m: Johannes Marcus (-AFT 10 FEB 1664)

on BEF 12 SEP 1660 at possibly,Brooklyn,New York

    Children:

  • Hendrickje Johannes m. William Jorrisse , children: 1. Elsje Jorrisse.
    Notes:
In December 1653, Elsje Hendricks sued Jacobus Backer. She claimed she her little girl had t aken a payment to Jacobus Backer for half a barrel of soap, but that she had not received the soap. No attempt was made by the defendant to disprove the testimony, and the defendant was ruled to be in default. [B. Fernow, Records of New Amsterdam, 1:133,137,141]. Because no husband appears in the record, it is assumed that she was by that time widowed, supporting herself and at least one daughter (possibly as a laundress). The little girl may have been Stintje, future wife of Jans Pietersen.

    !Marrage(Johannes Marcus): Between Dec 1653 & 12 Sep 1660.

Her husband Johannes Marcus, but not her, appeared at a baptism of Elsje, the daughter of Henrickje Johannes and William Jorrisse (Henrickje was probably her daughter by Johannes Marcus) on 14 Oct 1677. Esje Henricks' absense may indicate that she was not living on that date.

    __________________________________________

Research leads: There are several Wests found in the 1880 census of Blue Earth Co., MN, many born in Canada, and many are plausible siblings of John B./F. West. One is actually named John F. West age 50 [c1830] b. Can, par b. NY/NY in Amboy Twp.; There is a Thomas West age 55 [c1825] Can/Can/Can in Amboy; Harrison West age 27 Can/Can/Can in Amboy Twp. ; Ami West age 55 [c1825] Can/NY/CT in Leroy Twp.; and Ichabod West [age 81, b. NY, widowed, par b. RI/CT, father, in household of Ami]

Note: John F. West, age 39 in 1860 MN census, Vivian Twp., Waseca Co., b. Lower Canada, p. 68, is not him. Names in that family do not match.

The following birth records are found in "Waldo County, Maine, Births, 1743-1892" for a John and Harriet West:
    Harriet E., 30 May 1840
    Joseph T., 31 Oct 1840
    Louisa C., 31 Aug 1841 [sic, rec. 31 Oct 1840]
    Rosina A., 22 Feb 1843
    George W., 20 Aug 1845
The same family is found in the 1850 census of Belfast Twp., Waldo Co., ME:
John West, 34 ME, farmer; Harriett, 30 ME; Harriett, 10 ME; Rosanna, 7 ME; George, 4 ME; Nash Lawrence, 47 ME, laborer
From the census, it appears to be a different John and Harriett West.

There are a couple West families found in Franklin Co., Vermont in the 1850 census. These are likely related, although the connections remain to be solved. They are transcribed here:

    !Census 1850 Berkshire, Franklin Co., VT, enum 9 Sep 1850, p. 208, hh 184/184:

The NH state marriage index also contains a marriage of a Jeremiah York of New Durham to Elsy Palmer of New Durham on Oct 6, 1803 in New Durham by Samuel Aunnals of New Durham.

Also listed is Jeremiah York of New Durham & Hannah Nason of New Durham, m. 9 Dec 1824 by Wm Buzzell in Middleton NH. Also, Jeremiah York of Middleton to Eveline M. Bennett of Alton by H.D. Buzzell (one card says m. on 29 Dec 1800 in Alton, another card says m. bef Apr 1, 1850 in Alton). Another entry suggests the date was closer to 1850 -- it shows Charles B. York of Dover NH age 23, occ: wild dealer, b. Dover NH (his 1st m) son of Jeremiah and Mary Bennett, m. Sep 7, 1893 Dover NH to Clara L. Roberts of dv age 24, b. Rochester NH (her 1st m) dau. of Elijah Roberts.

A very likely brother: NH marriage index shows: Eliphley York of Middleton m. 27 Jul 1807 in New Durham to Nancy [?Twornbly?] of Farmingon, m. by Benj Randal of New Durham. The bride's last name is clearly the same as Lydia's last name, the date is very similar, and there is a name similarity with one of Jeremiah's sons.

    Notes:
Death appears in the parish register of Hursley, transcribed in "The Origin of Stephen Hopkin s of the Mayflower" TAG 73(3): Oct 1998 p.163, as: "[1613] Mary Hopkines the wife of Steeven Hopkines was buried the ix day of May"

Her inventory is dated 10 May 1613 at Hursley, and is printed in "The True Origin of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower", on record at the Hampshire Record Office, granted 12 May 1613 to "Roberto Lyte [vir] gard de hursly" and "thome Syms vir supra[vis]sor p[er] pauper", during the minority of "Constance, Elize[beth] et Egidij" ("et Egidij" is latin for "and Giles"). The inventory calls her a widow, although her burial record calls her "wife of Stephen Hopkins".

Caleb Johnson's article points out that the Stephen Hopkins of the Sea Venture disembarked in 1609, and was still in Virginia in 1613, condition unknown back in Hursley. So, it may have been easier to assume him deceased so as to free up property for the children's support.
