    Notes:
!SOURCE 1: Hord Family Genealogy by A.H. Hord, 1898.
Source 1 states that he died Abt. 1712 in Va.

    !Notes, Biography:
John Hord was engaged in the rebellion of the Duke of Monmouth against King James II, and came to America after the defeat of the former. Other members of his family were also actively engaged in this rebellion. On 11 Jun 1685, "St. Barnabas Day", Thomas Hord was arrested for taking part in this rebellion (brother or relative -- not son).

He came to Virginia in 1685 and purchased a large tract of land in what is now Caroline Co., on the Rappahannock River, which he named "Shady Grove".
(Picture of this house, still standing in 1898, is in Source 1). He brought the house from England in sections and reassembled it. It looks better described as a mansion than a house. It is located 2 miles south of the Rappahannock River, 8 miles below the present day village of Port Royal, near the present day line of the counties of Caroline and Essex.

!SOURCE 2: Manuscript of Robert Hord, 1838.
"Here John Hord lived and died, and his land descended to my father, who was his grandson, and was sold by me in the year 1821 to Daniel Reynolds... From this origin every man bearing the name of Hord in America is descended."

On Dec 28, 1835, Monroe Larkins of Putnam Co., Illinois, purchases 40 acres of public federal land in Marshall Co., Illinois, Section 26, township code 30N. [Vol. 69, page 39]. (Marshall Co. was formed from Putnam Co. on 19 Jan 1839). On exactly the same day (and page), William E. Larkins, of Tazewell Co., Illinois, also purchased land in Marshall Co., township code 30N, Section 8 (possibly the same transaction -- can't tell from the on-line index).

On May 5, 1845, Monroe Larkins purchased 2 federal land sales in Putnam Co., Illinois, for 40 acres each (record ids 285703 and 285704 in Vol. 708 page 106). Each sale was for $1.25/acre. The township is coded as 14N meridan 4. Section 14 part SWSE and SESW.

In 1847, Monroe and his wife Elizabeth (Glenn) travelled the Oregon trail into the Oregon territory.

The settled on an original Donation Land Claim of a full section (640 acres) near Marquam in 1847.

!Birthdate: Larkin's diary. Copy in possession of Gladys (Chrisman) Porter and Lonnie D. Chrisman. Original diary is believed to have passed down through a daughter of Abraham named something like "Tessie". Says: "Monroe Larkins was Born January the 4th 1818". Also lists children.

!Marriage(1): Larkins bible: "Monroe Larkins and Elizabeth V Glenn was Marryed Aprile the 15th AD 1841"

!Marriage(2): Clackamas Co., OR, marriage index: "Larkin, Monroe [to] Williams, Grace, Sept. 19, 1874, pg. 244" [Copy of index sent to me by Sharon Larkins in Feb 1996]

!Death: Larkins bible (hard to read on my copy): "Monroe Larkins died April the 10th 1898 after 12 oclock in the Night."

Note: It is likely that one of his daughters married a Sportsman and had a son Karl Sportsman. My grandpa Lyle vaguely remembers a cousin of his mother by that name. Also, he remembers a Glenn Larkins of some relation to him. Glenn was probably born about 1900, and was around when my grandpa was 18 or 19, but since about that time, my grandpa doesn't know what became of him. [Note: See Glenn, son of Abraham, gr.son of Monroe Larkins].

!Burial: Michelle Brubaker found the tombstones of "Monroe Larkins Jan 4, 1818 - Apr 10, 1898" and Elizabeth V. Larkins near the back of her ranch. The stones are broken.
