Her name appears in records as Lydia E. Gore, Emaline Devine, and Lyddie Devine. It took me a while to establish Emaline (Gore) Devine, wife of James W. Devine, as the same person as Lydia E. Gore, dau. of Joseph B. Gore. After exchanging information with Joyce Lock, I certainly believed that to be the most likely theory, since the birth dates and places matched so well. However, I had nothing to indicate that the middle initial, "E.", stood for Emaline, nor did I have any indication that Emaline (Gore) Devine ever used the name Lydia. I was for a very long time unable to locate the James Devine family in the 1880 census. Thanks to FamilySearch.com's on-line 1880 census, that changed in Dec 2003, where I found them in Cass Co., Nebraska, and where she appeared as "Lyddie Devine"! That was the piece I needed to accept Lydia E. Gore and Emaline Gore as the same person, and thus establish her parentage.
