Notes
Henry I, King of France (1031-60)
His reign was characterized by struggles with rebellious vassals. Although Henry was crowned by his father, Robert II, his younger brother Robert claimed the throne and was supported by their mother, Constance of Provence. In the ensuing civil war, Henry was forced to cede Burgundy to Robert. Henry at first supported (1035-47) and then fought unsuccessfully against (1054, 1058) William, duke of Normandy. He was succeeded by his son Philip I.
