Notes
In December 1653, Elsje Hendricks sued Jacobus Backer. She claimed she her little girl had taken a payment to Jacobus Backer for half a barrel of soap, but that she had not received the soap. No attempt was made by the defendant to disprove the testimony, and the defendant was ruled to be in default. [B. Fernow, Records of New Amsterdam, 1:133,137,141]. Because no husband appears in the record, it is assumed that she was by that time widowed, supporting herself and at least one daughter (possibly as a laundress). The little girl may have been Stintje, future wife of Jans Pietersen.
!Marrage(Johannes Marcus): Between Dec 1653 & 12 Sep 1660.
Her husband Johannes Marcus, but not her, appeared at a baptism of Elsje, the daughter of Henrickje Johannes and William Jorrisse (Henrickje was probably her daughter by Johannes Marcus) on 14 Oct 1677. Esje Henricks' absense may indicate that she was not living on that date.
