Brian Smith, Sept. 1993. !Birth-Death: The Descendants of John Atwood of Plymouth, Benj.Shutliff, 1912. !Marriage: Larry Lawson research (cited by J. Brian Smith). The following was posted on ATWOOD-L@rootsweb.com on July 7, 1998 by alg@bbs.snol.com <Al Gann>: In 1457 Peter AtteWode obtained a license from the Bishop for a private chapel at Wood Place. Fifty years before, the family had succeeded to Sanderstead Court, a manor housse not far from the Wood place. One of the earliest records now in the church in Sanderstead Village reads: "Here lyeth Nycholas Wood, third son of John Atwood of Sanderstead Court, who served Queen Elizabeth sinsce the second year of her reign, and deceased the 14th of May, 1586, leaving behind him a Wife and children, seven sons, Harmon, Nicholas, James, John, Alice, Susan, Thomas, Richard.
