When comparison with the known birthdates, the 1860 census appears to have been taken between 27 Feb 1862 and 7 Apr 1862.
Preston Haines enlisted in 1861 for three years, in Co. B, 11th Missouri Infantry. He died 14 Feb 1863 in the Military Hospital in Keokuk Iowa. His widow remarried to W.T.Williams, had one children (Martin L.) and resides in Cotton Hill, Twp. [Hist. Sangamon Co., Ill., pg. 594]

A Preston Haines shows up in the 1850 census of Northern part of the 2nd district of Johnson Co., Illinois. That census entry (Roll 112, page 365, enum 5 Nov 1850, family 259/259) reads as follows:
