Notes

During the years that William Chenault Jr. was in Bedford County, the Walker family (specifically James Walker, son of John Walker), along with the Chenaults, are prominent in the court records, serving on road gangs, juries, acting as witnesses, etc., with each other. James Walker's daughter, Maggie, m. John Webster in 1763, Bedford Co., and she is mentioned in his will drawn in Rockingham Co., NC, 1813. Both family named their first born sons Abner, and other names in the two families correspond. Their land adjoined in North Carolina and other documents show the families to be close. The exact relationship of Susanna and James Walker has not been established. W. W. and Clara Chenault, Chenault Genealogy 1978 edition, believe them to be first cousins. To me, it seems like James could even be Susanna's father, and I'm not sure why this wasn't considered or refuted in the mentioned essay.
