Notes

Born England, immigrated to Dedham, Mass., then to Newport, Rhode Island, and finally to Kingston, RI. He was a tailor by trade, and ordained a Baptist minister in 1655 at the age of 17 or 18. He joined up with Roger Williams, who had founded the Providence Plantation in 1636, that was later called Rhode Island, and joined the first Baptist church in Kingston. However, in 1656, when Thomas would have been about 18, he and others left that church, citing several complaints, and founded the Six Principle Baptist Church in North Kingston, where Thomas Baker served as pastor until his death in 1710.
