Notes

He was probably born and raised in Antwerp, Belgium, where he married his first wife. Following her death, between 1583 and 1590, he apparently moved to Dordrecht, Holland. Dordrecht is in the province of South Holland, 12.5 miles southeast of Rotterdam. At this time he moved there, it was a key center activity, especially related to religious reformation Dordrecht was among the first towns in Holland to embrace the Reformed religion. In 1618-1619 the Synod of Dort meeting took place there, affirming the doctines of Calvin. Many of the dutch masters (artists) lived there. Clearly one of the most progressive towns of its time, and perhaps this excitement and increased religious tolerance were among the attractions that led the de Deckers there. His name appears frequently in property tax records in Dordrecht (verponding lists).
