Notes
Paul R. Botts <prb@chinet.chinet.com> on 30 Mar 1995 communicated to me that ["The Schoonmaker Family, Descendants of Henrick Jochemsz Schoonmaker, 1624-1682", by The Schoonmaker Family Association, Huguenot Historical Society, P.O. Box 121, New Paltz, NY 12561] states that he was the son of the progenitor, Henrick Jochemsz Schoonmaker, had two wives (Petronela Slight and Antje Hussey), and among his children by the first were Elsie (Ellsje) and Tryntje.
A letter (May 1995) from HJThayer also provided this info, along with marriage dates and parentage for his spouses.
On 7 June 1663, in a surprise attack by indians on the settlements of Wiltwyck and Hurly, he was captured by the indians at his uncle's house (Volchert van Douw). He was 9 years old at the time, and was held for about 3 months by the indians.
On 3 Jun 1694 he sponsored the baptism of Henrick Schoonmaker, son of Henrick and Geertruy (DeWitt) Schoonmaker, along with Jannetje DeWitt. [Records of Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston NY].
!Will: Dated 9 Dec 1729, names wife Antje, children Cornelius Barentsen, Henrick, Tryntje, Elsie, Jacomyntje, Frederick, Jan, Margaret, Jacobus, Elizabeth, Benjamin, Antje, Sara, Jochem, and Daniel (only Rebecca is not named), proved 7 Nov 1730.
From NYGBR Jan 1888, "The Schoonmaker Family of Ulster Co., NY" by Thomas G. Evans, p.22-26: "One of the original settlers of Rochester, Ulster Co., NY, and was with Col. Henry Beerman and Moses DePuy, a member of its first Board of Trustees, holding that office from 14 Sept 1703-1715. He was also supervisor of the town 1709-1712 and was Captain of a company raised for defense against the Indians. He probably died in 1730, as his name appears on the quit-rent roll of 1729, and his will bears date Dec 9, 1727, was proved Nov 7, 1730.
