Notes

!Marriages: MF 6:65. !Death: MF 6:264. Freeman thinks he was John King of Sandwich. Joined church at Harwich, 14 Sep 1701 [Freeman 494, MFR 4:245] !Will: Dated 18 Nov 1752, proved 1 May 1753. Mentions wife (but gives no name), heirs of son John, heirs of dau. Joanna Cole, dau. Bashua Rider, heirs of son Samuell, son Roger, grandson Stephen King, and son Ebenezer. Cattle mark at Eastham, 1688. He settled in Harwich in 1701, coming prior from Eastham. The Boston Post Boy of 25 June 1753 reported: "We are informed from Harwich in County of Barnstable that Mr. John King lately died there, aged 105 years; he was born in Old England and had lived in Harwich about 70 years." [MF 6:64] John King is said to have been at Eastham by 1686. He signed a reciept with other heirs of Stephen Snow (his father-in-law) on 21 May 1706. He bought land at Harwich from Indians on 11 May 1711 and was a proprietor there. !Will: John King of Harwich, dated 18 Nov 1752, proved 1 May 1753, Names beloved wife (without given name), and distributed residuary estate in 1/7 shares to the following: Heirs of son Samuel, heirs of son John, heirs of dau. Joanna Cole, grandson Stephen King, son Roger, son Ebenezer, and dau. Bashua Ryder. Son Roger filed an account 5 Feb 1754. Note: Although it was published only about 2 months after his death, the Boston Post Boy article's claim that he was 105 years old at his death looks highly suspicious. If true, it would indicate a birth of about 1647, or nearly 17 years older than his first wife. It would mean he had children from age 43 to 67, which is a little aged. Various web pages identify his parents as Samuel King (b. 29 Aug 1649) and Sara, and his grandfather as a Samuel King who was in Plymouth in 1643. I have no records to substantiate this. Note: I have found at least one web site that contradicts this theory, http://www.journeyback.com/DUNHAM/fam00310.htm, which lists a son John King born 16 Mar 1682/3, which would be far too late to be the current individual.
