Many people will be surprised to learn how many different Chrisman immigrants arrived on America's shores. The list here is certainly not complete (always in progress).

The listing below is organized to help you identify your Chrisman ancestor. The information listed here is not, in most cases, a transcription of a single immigration record. I have provided hyperlinks to more detailed information on many of these Chrisman progenitors.

  • Hans Christmann (also John Christman, Hans Peter Christmann). Immigrated from Dalsheim (near Worms, Germany) to London in 1709, London to New York 1710. Wife=Anna Gertraud.

  • Elizabeth Christmann" (widow), immigrated to London 1709, to New York 1710.
    Possibly the mother of Jacob Chrisman who married Magdalena Hite. View the above hyperlink for more information about this theory.

  • Joseph Crismond. Appears in Charles Co., Maryland as early as 1716.

  • 1-John Niklos (Nicholas) Crössman/Cressman, immigrated from Pfungstadt to Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania, in 1718. Returned to Pfunstadt in 1727, and arrived a second time in Philadelphia on 16 Oct 1727 on Friendship of Bristol. Died 4 Jan 1755. (no descendants)

  • John Crisman. Immigration unknown, prior to 1725. Appears on the 1724/5 tax list for Conestoga Twp., Chester Co. (now Lancaster Co.), Pennsylvania.
  • 4-Johannes (John) Cressman, b. 10 Sep 1707 Pfungstadt, settled in Franconia Twp., Montgomery Co., Pa, and died there in 1786. Naturalized in Philadelphia in 1740. The date of his immigration is uncertain. It may have been before the immigration lists started (they started in 1730). (known as 4-Johannes)
  • 2-Johan Georg (Jurg) Croessman (a.k.a. Johannes Dirick Greesman), b. 28 Oct 1697 in Pfungstadt. Immigrated to Philadelphia, arr. 19 June 1729 on Morton House, oath on 17 Aug 1729. Settled in Montgomery Co.
  • 6-Johan Georg Crossman(1705-1785), "Carpenter", immigrated to Philadelphia 19 June 1729 on Morton House, oath on 17 Aug 1729. Settled in Franconia, Pa.
  • Daniel Chrisman. Arrived in Philadelphia 5 Sep 1730 on the Alexander and Anne. Settled in Montgomery & Chester Counties, Pennsylvania.
  • 7-Anna Maria (Crössmann) Heilman. Born 1706. Arrived on the ship Samuel, 11 Aug 1732, "age 20 years" [sic]. She married in 1736 to Johannes Heilman [Muhlenberg's Journal], an immigrant himself (as a child) who arrived on Oct 16, 1710. Resided near Trappe, Mont Co., Pa. Anna Maria died Sept 23, 1784.
  • 3-Maria Elizabeth (Chrisman) Buttel (14 Jan 1703 - 1788). Immigrated from Pfungstadt to America some time after 1734. Settled in Philadelphia. Married 10 Feb 1724 in Pfungstadt to Nicholas Buttel (9 May 1695 - 1776).
  • Jacob Christaman. Wurtenburg to Philadelphia 16 Sep 1736 on Pricess Augusta. Settled in Lehigh Co., Pennsylvania. (See also)
  • Christoph Christmann. Immigrated from Zweibrucken or Massweyler in 1736 with wife and 5 kids.
  • Henrich Craseman/Crossman. Arrived in Philadelphia 24 Sep 1737 on the Virtuous Grace.

  • Jacob Chrisman. Arrival unknown, probably circa 1740. Lived in Lancaster Co., Pa 1741-1759, Lebanon Pa 1759-176x, then to Guilford Co., North Carolina.

  • 5-Johan George Crössmann, "Saddler". Born 14 Aug 1712 in Pfungstadt. Arrived in Philadelphia 27 Sep 1740 on the Lydia.

  • John Hendrick Creytsman. Arrived in Philadelphia 3 Dec 1740 on the Robert & Alice. ?Died 1749 Philadelphia. Also with him on the ship was 8-Philip Balthaser Chreytsman. Born 2 Feb 1714 in Pfungstadt. Settled in Amity Twp. near Philadelphia, Pa.

  • Hans Adam Cresman, arrived 26 Oct 1741 to the Port of New York aboard the Snow Molly, John Cranch master, from Rotterdam, Netherlands. There is a good chance that he is the Adam Christman who appears on the 1775 tax list of Marple Twp., Chester Co., PA, where an Elisha Chrisman also appears.
  • Henrich Christmann. Arrived to Philadelphia 17 or 20 Nov 1741 on Europa. Settled in Chestnut Hill, Northampton Co., Pa.

  • Johan Heinrich Cressman. Immigrated from Quirnbach to Philadelphia 21 Sep 1742 on the Francis & Elizabeth. Settled in Philadelphia.

  • Johan Michel Christman. Immigrated to Philadelphia 15 Sep 1748 in Two Brothers.

  • Michel Christmann. Arrived in Philadelphia, age 18, on 16 Sep 1748 on Patience.

  • Johan Michael Christman. Arrived to Philadelphia 2 Sep 1749 on Chesterfield.

  • Johann Philipp Kristmann. Arrived to Philadelphia 7 Oct 1749 on Leslie. "Persons from Palatinate, Manheim, and Zweybreckt".

  • Maria Margaret (Chrisman) Graeber. Immigrated from Aus Dem, Claeninger, Kirchspiel in 1750 with husband Anthony Graeber. Settled in Conesoga, Lancaster Co., Pa. Sister of Johan Heinrich Cressman.

  • Johannes Kriestman. Arrived Philadelphia 21 Sep 1751 on Two Brothers.

  • Balthas Kressmann & Johann Christbaum. Arrived Philadelphia 23 Sep 1751 on Neptune.

  • Charles Christman & Mathias Chrisman. Arrived Phila 25 Nov 1763 on Brigantine Success. These me be connected to Matthias Chrisman (1754-1834) of Allegheny Co., Maryland and Fleming Co., Ky.

  • John Jorg Paulus Christman (Johan Georg Paul Chrisman, or just Paul Chrisman, 1737/8-1805). Arrived 9 Sep 1765 on the ship Chance. Settled in Hagerstown and Cumberland, Allegheny Co., Maryland. Rev. war service.

  • Frantz Christman. Arr. to Phila. 26 Oct 1768 on the ship Betsey.

  • Charles Crisman (1750-1817). Immigrated from Pfungstadt to Blairstown, NJ in 1769.

  • Johann Georg Christman. Arr. to Phila. 17 Sep 1771 on Minerva.

  • Elisha Crisman of Chester Co., Pa. First appears on tax lists in Marple Twp. in 1774, and died there in 1830 in E. Brandywine Twp., Chester Co., Pa. It is not known whether he was an immigrant, but no other connection is known.

  • Elias Chrisman. Married Elizabeth Kohler in Germantown, Montgomery Co., Pa in 1775. Appears in Tredyffrine Twp., Chester Co., Pa., in 1779. Moved to the Cincinnati, Ohio area, and died there about 1835. Buried in Springdale Twp., Hamilton Co., Ohio. It is not known whether he was an immigrant, but no other connection is known.

  • George Chrisman. Arrived 1798 to Maryland.

  • Johann Georg Croessmann (1822-1904). Immigrated from Pfungstadt to Illinois before 1849.

  • Anna Maria Croessmann (1825-1907), half-sister to Johann Georg, immigrated from Pfungstadt to Illinois before 1853.

  • Johann Philipp Croesmann, b. 1797 Pfungstadt, settled in the Shenandoah Valley.

  • Johann Ludwig Croesmann, b. 1802 Pfungstadt, settled in the Shenandoah Valley. After his immigration (?1835), known as Lewis Chrisman. Married in Pfungstadt to Elizabeth Christine Jung.

  • Ludwig B. Christman/Crissman (1797-1880) and George Jacob Christman (1799-1890), brothers, immigrated from Germany to Seneca Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio, around 1827.

  • Cathr. Christman, age 24, domestic, from france (from manifest order, perhaps a domestic for the Spatch family), arrived to the port of New York on 25 July 1828 on the Barque Cavalier from Havre, France, Richard E. Orne, maseter.

  • Francis Chrisman, age 19, male, surgeon, of England, arrived 28 July 1834 on the ship John Taylor from Liverpool.

  • Jean Crisman, female shoemaker from Havre, France, arrived 13 Feb 1840 on the ship Caroline which sailed from Havre, France.

  • John V. Christman, b. 1824 or 1825 Germany. Living in Dear Creek Twp., Jay Co., Indiana, in 1850, age 25. His wife Eve, age 22, b. Germany. [1850 census, roll 153, p. 325] Also lived in Ohio in 1846.

  • A Phillip Christman of Greitsnach, Germany and his wife Elizabeth Anders (or Enders) of Morheim, Germany, immigrated to Pike Co., Ohio sometime between 1839 and 1848. It appears both had died there before 1850. An apparent son was John Christman, b. 1838 or 1839 Germany. Age 11 in 1850 census of Pee Pee Twp., Pike Co., Ohio, living with Robert and Malina McCollister. Another son was Jacob Christman (25 Jul 1838 Germany - 11 Oct 1904) of Chillicothe, Pike Co., Ohio who married Wilhelmina Sommers.

  • Daniel Francis "Frank" Christman, b. abt 1830/1834 in Bavaria. Believed by descendants to have come to America in early 1840s at age 10 or 11. Lived in Ohio by 1855 thru mid 1860s, and by mid 1870s onward Wisconsin. Found in 1880 in Vernon Co., Wisconsin in 1880. Married (1) c.1853 Margaret/Minnie Adams of Ohio, m(2) c.1871 Sarah Jane Fish.

  • Henrich Christman, age 21, farmer, Jean Christman, age 18, farmer, and Reid. Christman, age 19, farmer, arrived in the US on 30 Oct 1845 on the ship Viola sailing from Havre, France.

  • Jacques Christmann, male age 22 from Hochttettin, arrived to the Port of New York on 27 June 1846 aboard the Bark Doris, which sailed from Antwerp, Belgium.

  • Mary Cressman, age 20 from Great Britian, arrived to the Port of New York 2 Dec 1846 aboard the ship St. George.

  • Phil. Christman, age 17, Farmer of Germany, arrived 14 Jun 1847 on the ship Louis de Greer from Antwerp.

  • P. Christman, male age 20, and Jacobina age 23, of Germany, arrived 9 July 1847 on the ship Exchange from Havre.

  • Ullrich Chrisman, age 50, laborer of Germany, arrived 20 July 1848 on the ship Sir Robert Peel from London. With him were Marie Chrisman, age 40, laborer, Johannes Chrisman, age 15, laborer, Frena Chrisman, female, age 11, Elizabeth, age 9, and Morgan, male age 4.

  • Peter Christman, age 23, miner, of Germany, arrived 22 Aug 1849 on the ship Bombay sailing from Liverpool.

  • P. F. Christman, male age 30, farmer, Irish, intention to reside in U.S., arrived 20 Feb 1851 to Mobile, Alabama, on the schooner Ellen Perkins, from an unreadable foreign port (perhaps Chagras). Captain was named Blithens.

  • Henri Christmann, age 22 from Bavaria, arrived to the Port of New York aboard the ship Germania on 5 Nov 1851, departure from Havre, France.

  • Jacob Chrisman, age 18, cooper from Germany, and Peter Chrisman, age 18, shoemaker from Germany, arrived on 7 Jan 1852 on the ship Southampton from London.

  • Jacob Christman, age 19, farmer from Germany, arrived 20 Apr 1852 on the ship Southampton from London.

  • Geo. Christman, age 27, Cigar Maker of Germany, arrived 3 Aug 1852 on the ship Herman from Breman.

  • Frz. Christman, age 42, John Ant. Christman, age 38, Susannah Christman, age 34, Anna M. Christman, age 29, all from Germany, arrived 19 May 1853 to the US on the ship Windermere, sailing from Liverpool. Also aboard were children John Ant., age 7, John Peter, age 5, Anna M., age 2, and Jacob, age 1.

  • Martin Christman, age 37, farmer of France, arrived 14 Nov 1853 on the ship Maid of Orleans from Havre. With him were Christine, age 43, and Christian, age 9.

  • Joh. Gg. [Johan George] Christmann, age 28, and The?? [Thesesia or Theresia] Christmann, male [sic] age 27, arrived 19 Nov 1853 on the ship Empire, departing from Havre, France. Both were farmers from Bavaria. George Christmann age 55 b. Bavaria, and wife Theresia age 52 b. Bavaria, are found living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1880.

  • Phil Christman, age 24, shoemaker, Marg. Christman, age 23, John Christman, age 18, smith, and Jacob Christman, infant, all from Germany, arrived 29 Dec 1853 on the ship Yorktown from London.

  • Johan Christman, age 28, Math. Christman, age 27, and Peter Christman, age 18, all farmers from Germany, arrived 17 May 1854 on the ship South Carolina from Antwerp.

  • Jacobine Christman, age 26, female, from Hesse, arrived 4 Oct 1854 to the Port of New York on the S.S. Havre from Le Havre, France, D.C. Baxter, master.

  • Pet. J. Christman, female age 21, laborer of Germany, arrived 22 Dec 1854 on the ship Helicon from Antwerp.

  • Caroline Christman, age 20, and Maria Christman, age 14, both from Germany, arrived on 28 Apr 1855 to the Port of New York from London on the S.S. Sir Robert Peel, Thomas H. Gifford, ship master.

  • Adam Christman, b. 1833/4 Germany, immigrated 1855. Age 86 residing in Shannon, Carroll Co.,IL in 1930 with wife and daughter Ningh (Christman) Niesemeier.

  • Conrad Christman, age 16, Cooper from Germany, arrived 2 July 1856 on the ship Southampton from London.

  • Anton Christman, age 25, of Baden, arrived 29 Oct 1860 to the port of New Orleans on the ship Nuremberg sailing from Havre, France, Gustavus Schneidau, master. He may be the Anton Chrisman, age 44 in 1880, who m. Elisabeth Schaefer and resided in Belleville, St. Clair Co., Illinois. He is apparently not the Antoine Chrisman, age 50, b. Bavaria, living in Opelousas, St. Landry, Louisiana in 1880, since that Antoine was there as early as 1857. (Note also a family of Valentin Kurtzmann of France on the same voyage, whose descendents settled in Texas. This Valentin is probably not related to Anton, since Valentin's brother Antoine Kurtzman was about 10 years older than the age indicated for Anton Christman. Valentin's sister Agathe, later Agathe Kessler was also aboard. His brother Cosman immigrated earlier).

  • George F. Christman, b. 1851/1 Germany, immigrated in 1860. Age 79, widowed and living with his daughter, Ruth and son-in-law Arthur J. Henceroth in Gustavus, Trimbel Co. Ohio in 1930.

  • Bernard Christman, age 50, Farmer from Germany, arrived 7 June 1862 on the ship Richard Alsop from Antwerp.

  • Joh. Christmann, age 42, baker, arrived 25 June 1866 to the Port of New York aboard the S.S. New York departing from Bremen, Germany, I.G. Ernst, master. He occupied the first cabin, lower salon deck, and was either from or intending to reside in Trenton.

  • Barbara Christman, age 47, and Rudolph Christman, age 22, Cooper, both of Germany and destined for California, arrived 16 Aug 1866 on the ship Arago from Falmouth and Havre.

  • Ad. [Adam] Chrismann, age 21, from Germany, arrived on 13 July 1867 aboard the S.S. Herman which departed from Breman, Germany to the Port of New York. In the 1880 Census, Adam Christman, age 36 b. Germany, Farmer, and wife Elisabeth, age 26 b. Germany, are living in Loran, Stephenson Co., Illinois.

  • Adam Christman, age 58, farmer of Germany, arrived 31 July 1867 on the ship Giuseppe Baccarcic from Antwerp. With him were Anna Christman, age 53, Elizabeth, age 26, Jacob, age 16, and Niclaus, age 3.

  • Joh'm Christmann, 23, and Caroline Christmann, 21, both tailors from Baden, arrived 6 Oct 1867 to the port of New York aboard the S.S. Cella, departing from London, England and Havre, France.

  • Nicholas Christman, laborer age 27 of Luxemburg, arrived 17 Apr 1868 on the ship Cordova from Havre & Liverpool.

  • Stephan Christman, age 31, mason from Germany, arrived 12 Feb 1870 on the Westphalia sailing from Hamburg & Havre. With him was his wife, Marg., age 27.

  • Louise Christmann, age 32, from Baden, arrived 17 Nov 1870 on the S.S. Main, from Breman, Germany, to the Port of New York.

  • Christina Cresman, age 9, from Austria, arrived 14 Mar 1871 aboard the S.S. Deutschland, sailing from Breman, Germany to the Port of New York. She may have been traveling with Maria Martinek, age 27, from Austria.

  • Michael Christmanis, age 33, farmer from Switzerland, arrived 13 June 1871 to the Port of New York on the S.S. Thuringia, departing from Hamburg, Germany, W. Ehlers master.

  • Cath'e Christmann, age 18, unmarried female from Germany, arrived 9 Nov 1871 on the S.S. Cimbria, departing from Hamburg, Germany and Le Havre, France, to the Port of New York.

  • Henri Christman, age 19, laborer, with Ludwig Christman, age 11, arrived to US from Germany on 30 Mar 1872 on the ship Parthia, sailing from Glasgow & Liverpool.

  • Cath. Christman, girl age 17 of Germany, arrived 14 Aug 1872 on the ship Cimbria from Hamburg & Havre.

  • Phillippe Christman, age 21 of France, arrived 17 Oct 1872 on the ship Helvetia from Havre & London.

  • Arthur Christman, b. 1848/9 Germany, immigrated in 1872. Living with wife Emily in Paterson, Passaic Co., NJ in 1930.

  • Carl Christman, age 17, joiner from Germany, arrived 30 Apr 1873 on the ship Thuringia from Hamburg & Havre.

  • Frans-Eliz. Christman, spinster age 19 from Germany, arrived 7 Jul 1873 on the ship City of Limerick from Liverpool.

  • Jean Christman, age 22, Farmer from Germany, arrived 5 Jun 1874 on the ship C. F. Funch from Antwerp, destined for Michigan.

  • Maggie Christman, age 36, gentleman's servant from Ireland, arrived 17 Sep 1875 on the ship Utopia, sailing from Glasgow & Moville.

  • Theodore Christmann, age 31, weaver from Germany, arrived 19 April 1878 aboard the S.S. Oder, from Breman, Germany via Southampton, England to the Port of New York.

  • A Mrs. Christman, age 60, wife, arrived 29 Aug 1878 on the ship Braunschweig, sailing from Breman, Germany. Her origin was Germany and her destination was stated as Maryland.

  • Nicholas Christman, b. June 1857 in Germany, immigrated on the ship Zeeland from Antwerp Belgium arriving in New York 15 July 1879, destination stated as Massillon, Ohio. Settled in Weaverville, Medina Co., Ohio - found there in 1880 with a John and Maggie Christman who were born in "Lutrine". Nicholas m. Marie Elisabeth Shue, b. France. He died in a coal mining accident on 23 Aug 1906 in West Lebanon, Ohio.

  • Philipp Christmann, age 34, workman from Prussia, arrived on 16 Aug 1879 on the S.S. Herder, departing from Hamburg via Havre to the Port of New York.

  • Peter Christman, b. 1862/3 Germany, immigrated in 1880, widowed and living in Atascadero, SLO Co., CA in 1930.

  • George Christman,b. 1863/4 Germany, immigrated in 1880. Living in Denver, CO in 1930 with wife Anna, also German who immigrated in 1892.

  • An E. Christman, male, age 26, laborer, of Sweden, arrived 29 Aug 1880 on the ship British Empire,sailing from Liverpool.

  • Henrich Christman, laborer age 20 of Germany, arrived 18 Mar 1881 on the ship City of Brussels from Liverpool.

  • Wilh. Christmann, 16, Heinr Christmann, 23, and Johannes Christmann, 15, all workmen from Germany, arrived 18 Apr 1881 aboard the S.S. Mosel, from Bremen, Germany via Southampton, England, to the Port of New York.

  • L. Christman, male, age 31 of Germany, arrived 4 Jun 1881 in the ship Alsatia from London.

  • Michel Christman, age 37, laborer of Germany, arrived 18 July 1881 on the ship Hermann from Antwerp.

  • Elwine Christmann, age 22 single female from Prussia, arrived 16 Nov 1881 to the Port of New York aboard the S.S. Bohemia departing from Hamburg, Germany, I.C. Pezalot master.

  • Andrew Crisman, b. 1869/70 Germany, immigrated in 1881. Single in Wilmington, Delaware in 1930.

  • Caroline Christman, age 31, farmer, female, of Germany, arrived 12 May 1882 on the ship Labrador from Havre.

  • Jacob Christman, age 17, miner from Germany, arrived 30 May 1882 on the ship Schiedam from Amsterdam.

  • Jacob Christman, b. 1864/5 Germany, immigrated in 1882. Divorced and living in Denver, CO in 1930 with his sister, Anna (Christman) Husler, b. 1874/5 Germany who immigrated in 1889.

  • Phillip Christman, b. 1871/2 Germany, immigrated in 1882. Single in Chicago, IL in 1930.

  • Margretha Christman, age 25, Gentleman's servant from Germany, arrived 15 Sep 1883 on the ship P. Caland from Rotterdam.

  • Adam Christman, age 19, miller from Germany, 8 Oct 1883 on the ship W. A. Scholten from Rotterdam.

  • Johan Christman, age 16, laborer of Germany, arrived 22 Oct 1883 on the ship Leerdam from Amsterdam.

  • M. A. Christman, male age 60, Farmer from Germany, destined for New York, arrived 12 Apr 1884 on the ship Noordland from Antwerp. With him were Math. Christman, male farmer age 28, Aug. Christman, male farmer age 18, Jacob Christman, merchant age 16, and Peter, farmer age 16.

  • Sofia Christman, age 19, female from Prussia, arrived 12 May 1884 on the ship Werra from Breman.

  • Philipene Chrisman, age 40, female, from Germany, destination New York, arrived 3 Jan 1884 on the ship America from Bremen.

  • Philip Croessman, b. 1858 Pfungstadt, son of Valentin Croessman and Catharina Dickler. Immigrated to U.S. in 1884 then married Maria Gertrude Mitze.

  • Adolph Crisman, b. 1866/7 Germany, immigrated in 1884. Living with wife Ida in St. Louis, Mo in 1930.

  • Jacob Christman, age 20, laborer from Strassburg, Germany, destination Philadelphia, arrived 17 Apr 1885 on the ship Pennland from Antwerp.

  • Frs. Christman, male age 29, cigar maker from Salzbach, Germany, destination Pottsville, arrived 24 Apr 1885 on the ship Rhynland from Antwerp. Note: Could this be Frank X. below?

  • John Crisman, b. 1871/2 Germany, immigrated in 1885. Single and an inmate at the Rock Co. Asylumin Janesville, Wisconsin in 1930. No naturalization.

  • Jacob Christman, b. Dec 1860 Russia, immigrated in 1885 with wife Charlotte (b. Apr 1861 Russia). Living in Mercer Co., North Dakota on 30 June 1900 with 7 children.

  • Frank X. Christman, b. 1860/1 Germany, immigrated in 1886, Living in San Diego, CA in 1930 with wife Carolin.

  • Joh. Christman, age 52, farmer from Germany, destination Rochester, arrived 23 May 1888 on the ship Westernland sailing from Antwerp. Also with him were Barba, female age 49 and Carl age 13.

  • Heinr. Christman, age 24, Merchant of Germany, arrived 16 Nov 1888 on the ship Leerdam from Rotterdam.

  • Constantine Christman, b. Mar 1874 Russia, his wife Annir b. Aug 1877 Russia, and his mother Otelia (--) Christman b. Oct 1845, all immigrated in 1888, are found living on 13 Jun 1900 in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas.

  • M. Christman, male age 40, laborer from Hirsch, Germany, destined for New York, arrived 11 Jan 1889 on the ship Noordland from Antwerp.

  • Math. Christman, female age 21 of Erlenbach, Germany, destination New York, arrived 25 Apr 1889 on the ship Pennland from Antwerp.

  • Maria Christman, age 19, of Germany, destination Chicago, arrived 19 Oct 1889 on the ship Rotterdam sailing from Boulogne & Rotterdam.

  • Joh. Christman, age 25, merchant from Westbach, Germany, arrived 11 Apr 1890 on the ship Waesland sailing from Antwerp.

  • Paul P. Christman, b. 1854/5 Germany, immigrated in 1890. Living with wife Eliza A. in Cody, Park Co., Wyoming in 1930.
